DUO 2FA – Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Duo 2FA (Two-Factor Authentication) is a security solution developed by Duo Security (now part of Cisco) that adds an extra layer of protection to login processes. It ensures that users verify their identity using something they know (password) and something they have (a mobile device, security key, or biometric authentication).

Key Features of Duo 2FA:

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) – Supports multiple verification methods, including mobile push notifications, SMS codes, phone calls, security keys, and biometrics.
Adaptive Authentication – Adjusts authentication requirements based on user behavior, location, and device security.
Device Trust – Verifies if the device meets security policies before granting access.
Single Sign-On (SSO) – Provides seamless login across multiple applications with one secure authentication.
Remote Access Security – Integrates with VPNs, RDP, and cloud applications like Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, AWS, and more.
Self-Service Device Enrollment – Allows users to easily enroll and manage authentication devices.
Security Insights & Reporting – Offers visibility into login attempts, risk factors, and compliance monitoring.

How Duo 2FA Works:

  1. User logs in with their username and password.

  2. Duo sends a second verification request via:

    • Push Notification (Duo Mobile app)

    • One-Time Passcode (OTP) (SMS or generated by the app)

    • Phone Call verification

    • Security Key (YubiKey, FIDO2, etc.)

    • Biometric Authentication (Touch ID, Face ID, Windows Hello)

  3. User approves the request, and access is granted.

Why Use Duo 2FA?

Protects against phishing & credential theft by requiring a second factor.
Works with existing systems like Windows, macOS, Linux, cloud services, and VPNs.
Easy to deploy & manage for businesses of all sizes.
Meets compliance standards (HIPAA, PCI-DSS, GDPR, etc.).
